Professional Title: PhD Researcher
Institution: Newcastle University
Position: Associate Member

Clare Vaughan is a postgraduate research student in the Department of Sociology at Newcastle University. Her doctoral research concerns the role of violence and well being in the lives of young homeless women in the North East. Utilising a feminist biographical approach, the research seeks to identify the factors contributing to high rates of violence against girls and young women at risk of homelessness, and the role of the voluntary and community sector (VCS) and local authorities in mitigating these factors. The research employs a qualitative methodological approach, combining biographical interviews with the participatory visual method, photovoice. Clare has extensive experience of working with the VCS in delivering education programmes, with a particular focus on youth and women’s projects.
