Suzy is a research manager at Groundswell. Groundswell is a charity at the forefront of creating innovative participatory research within the UK homelessness sector. Suzy manages various research projects including a participatory and peer-led project exploring women’s experiences of homelessness in London.

Prior to joining Groundswell in November 2018, she was a research officer at the Young Foundation where she worked on a number of wide-ranging projects including research on post-industrial towns, minimum income and an evaluation of SPEAR’s Homeless HealthLink service. In 2016 Suzy completed a PhD from Queen Mary (University of London) where she explored the well-being and agency of widowed women in Nepal through an intersectional lens. This PhD was part of a long-standing interest in the issue of widowhood beginning in 2009. Within this research, Suzy used a number of qualitative methods including ethnography, interviews, oral histories and focus groups with participatory activities. Suzy is also a trustee at Widows Rights International and is a volunteer at HostNation – a charity supporting newly arrived asylum seekers and refugees.
