Suzy is a research manager at Groundswell. Groundswell is a charity at the forefront of creating innovative participatory research within the UK homelessness sector. Suzy is passionate about peer research and people affected by social issues being at the heart of developing solutions. Suzy manages various research projects including a participatory and peer-led project exploring women’s experiences of homelessness in London.
Prior to joining Groundswell in November 2018, she was a research officer at the Young Foundation where she worked on a number of wide-ranging projects including research on post-industrial towns, minimum income and an evaluation of SPEAR’s Homeless HealthLink service. In 2016 Suzy completed a PhD from Queen Mary (University of London) where she explored the well-being and agency of widowed women in Nepal through an intersectional lens. This PhD was part of a long-standing interest in the issue of widowhood beginning in 2009. Within this research, Suzy used a number of qualitative methods including ethnography, interviews, oral histories and focus groups with participatory activities. Suzy is also a trustee at Widows Rights International and is a volunteer at HostNation – a charity supporting newly arrived asylum seekers and refugees.
